What is heart disease?
Heart disease is when plaque builds up in the walls of the arteries slowing or blocking the flow of blood. If a total clot is formed, it can cause a heart attack or stroke. Learn more at heart.org.

The #1 killer in the United States and #2 killer in Canada is heart disease. It claims hundreds of thousands of lives every year.
The American Heart Association says that diet and lifestyle are the best weapons to fight cardiovascular disease.
It doesn’t need to be a major overhaul. Just add small improvements that can turn into habits.
Pick something from this list to improve upon. Your heart will thank you!
- Burn as many calories as you consume
- Eat a variety of nutritious foods from all food groups (including your fruits and veggies!)
- Limit nutrient-poor foods
- Decrease sodium in your diet
- Limit saturated and trans fats and replace with better fats
- Keep an eye on portion sizes
