Chicken Philly Cheesesteak Soup Meal In A Jar
Yummy! So you might be thinking...why on earth is she making soup during the hottest July in record in Phoenix, right? Well, because it's delicious!
Also, this is a meal in a jar recipe so I already had it ready and just added water, simmered and served. Even though it's a meal in a jar recipe, you can make this as a regular recipe by just tossing the ingredients in water and simmering until ready. If you don't have mason jars, you can also make meal in a baggie and just put this recipe in a ziploc baggie.
We're using Thrive Life freeze dried foods in our meal in a jar because they are easy to use and have a long shelf life. While we use up our mason jar meals that I make ahead within 4 months, you can also choose to get a FoodSaver mason jar sealer and then your meal in a jars will last longer. I've heard 3-5 years. If you do get a FoodSaver attachment, be sure to select either the regular mouth mason jar sealer or the wide mouth mason jar sealer depending on the type of jars you are using.
We used Thrive chopped chicken which is the smallest of the Thrive chicken options available. You can view our video going over Thrive Life's freeze dried chicken here. I felt the smaller chicken pieces worked well in this recipe because it has so much flavor and we didn't need to use the seasoned chicken slices.
For the sauce we used both Thrive Bechamel which is a creamy white sauce and Thrive cheese sauce which is cheddar cheese ground into a powder. The two together make this soup a winner!
We ended up going with 3 cups of water which made a thicker soup. If you're looking for a thinner soup than add more water and if you want a heart soup, add a little less. What you want to watch if you're going for a thicker soup is that you have enough water to refresh (rehydrate) the ingredients and make sure everything is covered while simmering. You don't want any crunchy chicken!
Chicken Philly Cheesesteak Meal In A Jar Recipe (Pint Size Mason Jar)
Ingredients:
- 3/4 c. Thrive Chopped Chicken
- 1/4 c. Thrive Onion Slices
- 1/8 c. Thrive Green Peppers
- 1/8 c. Thrive Red Peppers
- 1/4 c. Thrive Mushrooms
- 2 tablespoons Thrive Bechamel Sauce
- 2 tablespoons Thrive Cheese Sauce

- 1/2 c. Thrive Shredded Mozzarella Cheese
- 2 1/2 - 3 c. water
Directions:
Add ingredients to pint size mason jar, seal.
When ready to cook, add 2 1/2 to 3 cups water into saucepan and empty meal in a jar ingredients into saucepan. Bring to a simmer and simmer approximately 15 minutes. Since we're not refreshing (rehydrating) the mozzarella cheese in an earlier step, you want to make sure that fully refreshes.
Top with Thrive Chives and serve with low sodium multigrain crackers or garlic bread.
* You can also substitute Thrive chopped onions in place of Thrive onion slices.

Why use Thrive Life Freeze Dried Foods?
Thrive freeze dried foods are different than any other kind you’ll find on the market.
- These foods won’t spoil in a few days…or even a few weeks. They’re good.
- You won’t be thawing, degreasing, or cutting raw meat.
- You won’t be chopping veggies or washing and peeling fruit.
- There’s an extra burst of flavor you won’t find anywhere else! Just take a bite!
- Just toss in any meal or refresh (rehydrate) in warm water.
- Free of GMOs, preservatives, artificial nonsense and chemical junk
- The Nutrilock Promise! It's our little secret that makes our food higher in nutrients and freeze-dried fresh all year long. It's a rigorous 41 step process that one Thrive Life owns, and it takes that wild, naturally ripened food and gently locks in the nutrients and flavor without the use of preservatives.
